Day 2

The Meaning Behind Your Blog Name:

Wow, I could not even remember what I had named the blog and had to go view our blog in order to remember. I pretty much chose the name because it was simple, easy to remember (Ha!), and it is who we are. Together we make Bryan and Brittney Austin. Nothing really extraordinary about that. I do love the fact that I get to take Bryan's last name when we got married. Some women are a little weird about the fact of taking the man's last name and will hyphenate their last name or just not change it. I loved my maiden name of Campbell and will always be proud of the fact that I am indeed a Campbell, but it is nice to also be apart of another family line. I am just glad that I get to change it to Austin and nothing else. I love my hubby so much and cannot see myself with anyone else.

Fun Days Off

Bryan and I were able to spend quite a bit of time together this last week. I have really been slacking on taking pictures and I apologize for that. I will eventually get back into it all. Bryan had all of last week off. We originally had asked for the time off for a family vacation that got canceled due to my dad having a knee replacement. He just relaxed each day and night until I was off. Then we were able to hang out and go do things together. I had Thursday through Monday off.

Thursday we really just hung out and got some lose errands that needed to be done finished. We went to downtown Salt Lake originally to go to the Salt Lake Art Center but we did not make it in time. Instead we went into Temple Square and sat by the reflection pool and people watched. Bryan and I love people watching and just talking. It is so much fun to watch people and how they act when they think no one is looking.

We ended up staying there until almost dark. We then went and got some yummy pizza at the Pizza Stop in Magna. Friday we got up early and went and saw the exhibit at the Salt Lake Art Center. It was okay. I am not a huge fan of art exhibits but it was fun to look at everything with Bryan by my side. I actually have to go to a number of events for my Art Symposium Class that I am currently taking only through Utah State University. We then went and took my pop to physical therapy before heading over to my parents house for dinner.

After dinner Bryan and I parted for the evening and my mom and I ended up going shopping and hanging out while Bryan got to go on a ride along with the West Jordan Police Department. Bryan is wanting to become a police officer and the ride along gave him the opportunity to ask questions and really see what it is all about. As Bryan put, he now has the bug, the bug to be a police officer more than anything else in the world. He is very excited and finds out next week for sure if he has financial aid to help with school so he could start in the fall. He got to go to the school yesterday and sign a bunch of paperwork saying that he would finish his classes with a C or better for 30 credit hours before being taken off of academic probation. Bryan did not do too well in the past in his school work. But he is very driven to become a police officer and he is very passionate about helping others. I think he will get financial aid and be going to school in the fall. I will update with a post once we find out. Bryan had a good time on the ride along and even got to see what it takes to take someone to jail and learned a lot of new information and fun tid bits.

Saturday I got up early and loaded the truck with camping gear. Bryan, Blue and I went up to the Uintahs Saturday afternoon and met up with our best friends Brad and Brie and their little boys Xander and Griffin. We went to a lake and played in the just hung out and had fun just relaxing by the water. Blue got to play in the water and I can tell he had fun doing so. He even got to play with Xander and it was so cute to watch. We then went back to camp and Brad and Brie cooked an awesome stew that was delicious.

We then hung out by the campfire after the little ones went to bed and had s'mores and talked until we went to bed. We got the next morning and after packing up we went home for a few hours and got some lazy Sunday rest before going over to my mom and dad's house for yummy dinner and new episode of True Blood. This has become a weekly ritual and we love getting to have yummy dinners and hang out and watch a good show that Bryan and I love watching together. We usually just grab some pillows and snuggle up on the floor in front of the television together.

Monday we got to go see the new Transformer's movie in 3-D. It was really good the action and graphics were great and it was fun to get to see it with Bryan. We went to the matinee to save some money and we were only ones in the theater besides one other guy. It was pretty nice. We then went to Olive Garden for lunch before Bryan had to go to work.

My cousin Rich is in town this week and we have got to hang out with him most nights and it has been good to see and get to talk with the cous. We got to go Tuesday night and see Captain America. It was pretty good. I really enjoyed the movie and how they kept him close to the real character. The only thing I thought could have used improvement was the ending. No closure at all...

I have officially found bedding and sheets for school. My mom and I went shopping last night and we found a great deal on bedding at JCPenney's and we ended up only spend about $20 for the bedding. It was great. My mom is so freaking amazing and I have the best parents in the world. If it were not for them, I would not be able to school like this and I really would not have as great a life as I have if it were not for them. Only 32 more days before my big move to Logan for school. I am getting really nervous but excited at the same time. I actually was even to get some of my school books online from Amazon.com last night. On Amazon the three books I got were only $254 versus $356 at the bookstore. We saved $102 by getting them from Amazon.com. Cha-ching! I know though, in just thinking about it and trying to picturing it, it is going to be hard to be away from Bryan. I love that man so much and just sleeping next to him makes all the difference in the day. All I can say is it will be easier to get up in the morning because when I wake up with him next to me in the morning, I never want to get out of bed. I love listening to music and the lyrics and I have found a couple lately that make me think of Bryan every time I hear them. I am updating the play list that goes with the blog to reflect these songs. The first one is Honey Bee by Blake Shelton. The reason I think of Bryan is because to tell Bryan how much I love him I always give him analogies like he is the peanut butter to my Reese's peanut butter cup, and you are the ocean to my whale, and you are the chocolate chip to my cookie. I love this song because it is what I love about Bryan. Everything I am, he is the strong counter part. The second is Letters From the Sky by Civil Twilight. I love this song because even when we are apart (particularly when I go to school) or all goes wrong, we don't have to worry because we were made for each other. The third one is I Will Follow You Into the Dark by Death Cab for Cutie. I love this song. It is so different and rather morbid but beautiful. That even after death comes, we will be together. So to Bryan I say, you'll be my honeysuckle and I'll be your honey bee and that you and I were made for this, I was made to taste your kiss, we were made to never fall away. If there's no one beside you when your soul embarks, then I'll follow you into the dark.

Fun Times

So it has been a little while since I last updated. We have got to go do a lot of fun things lately. A couple of weekends ago we walked from our house down to 5600 West while the West Valley West Fest was going on. It was a wonderful date night for Bryan and I which we rarely get to be just him and I that often because we are always so busy with other things. The walk was a perfect temperature and once we got to 5600 West right around 6:30 pm. We walked over to Lanta's Frozone and enjoyed some yummy custard that was oh so good for the recent warm temps. If you have not tried this place, you definitely should. It is like creamy ice cream and makes my tummy happy.

After the custard break, we then walked over to the West Valley Family Fitness Center where the festivities were going on. We walked through all the crowds and glanced at the different booths and fun items that people were selling. We then walked over to the entertainment tent and there was none other than John Schmidt with his friend the cellist playing away. I was so excited to get to see him in concert. I am such a big fan of John Schmidt and his songs he plays. He is such a great performer. He even put on a bright red wig at one point while playing and started dancing around. Anyone who watches him perform it is so contagious not to smile and just fall in love with how passionate he is about his playing. I actually got to meet him as well and he signed one of the CD's he had for sale that I bought while there. It was wonderful.

After the concert, the fireworks went off and it was a great show. They handed out these glasses that accentuated the fireworks and made them look kind of trippy in a way. It was a lot of fun. They played patriotic music while the fireworks went off and it was nice to have the extra added effect. We then walked back over to Panda Express and ate dinner before making the walk home. Bryan and I love walking together we get to talk about anything and everything and we really enjoy each others company. I love my husband so much and he is such a wonderful man to have as a walking companion in this life.

Last weekend I woke up early and while Bryan headed over to his parent's house to help with putting in a new water heater, my mom and I got to go to the Farmer's market in downtown Salt Lake. I love hanging out with my mom. She is so much fun to be around and she just brings good energy all the time. We took Boston and Daisy girl with us to the market and they did great and were big hits. There were other westies at the market just like Boston and of course we had to stop and say hi. Daisy got a new collar thanks to my mom who bought it for me for helping with my dad after his knee surgery. She got the pink and white one that has hearts on it from this place called Woof Ware. The owner of the company makes custom and regular collars and leashes that are so cute. Now Daisy girl looks like a lady and so cute with her new collar to show off.

After the Farmer's Market we got to go to Seven Peaks water park in Salt Lake formerly known as Raging Waters with our friends Brad and Brieanna. It was awesome times and at a reasonable price thanks to Groupon. Groupon had a deal that was $19 per person for access to the park, a parking voucher, tube rental, and a combo meal. Groupon is awesome and I can thank Brie for pointing it out to me. It was perfect timing too because the Friday before the Saturday that we went is when the deal went up. Cha Ching!

We went to the water park like I said with our friends Brad and Brieanna. Brad and Bryan have been like best friends since birth. Not really but they did grow up right next to each other and have been good friends ever since. Brieanna and I have become great friends through the association of our husbands and we all have a really good time together when we do get to hang out. We went on all the water slides (except the drop straight down ones, those scare me a little too much), swam in wave pool, and chilled out in the lazy river. It was the first time in a long time that I have been to a water park. Mostly because I avoid exposing my legs and body to the limit of all the time as if death were to approach if I wore a bathing suit in public. It was so much fun though and I really enjoyed. Bryan had not been before to a water park. I remember going all the time. It seems strange to me that he had never been before and I could tell he really enjoyed the water and slides. He used to hate water and now he is a regular fishy like me. We had to spend the time convincing him that it was time to go. He did not want to leave at all but we finally convinced him to go. We then headed back to our friend's house, had pizza, and finished the night off by watching the neighbors letting off their new higher that before fireworks that everyone had gone and bought.

My dad had a knee replacement two weeks ago because his knee had gotten so bad he could barely walk. He will eventually need both knees replaced but he only had one done this time. He is doing really well and he is healing nicely. He has had his grumpy moments since the surgery but we all love him and just want him to get better. He should be out for another 2-4 weeks before back to his normal self again.

Work and school are the same at this point we are just trying to prep for the hard years ahead with me having to go away for school and the time apart will not be easy for us. I try to think what it will be like to wake up in the morning and not have Bryan right next to me. It makes me cry thinking about it and I do not know how I am going to be able to do it. Bryan is so supportive of me and my goals to become a vet and he has decided himself to go to school for Criminal Justice and become a police officer. I think he would be a wonderful police officer to tell the truth. He is so personable and easy to approach and he really is a people person. He has charm as I like to tell him. Also he is all into guns, military, and police work. Those are the majority of the shows he watches and he loves the tactical aspect of it all.

Movies and a short update.

So I have been terrible on keeping up to date with this thing and the movies we have been watching recently. A lot of the horror ones I watched by myself since Bryan is not the biggest fan of horror like I am but we did end up watching a lot of these together. Toy Story 3 has to be the saddest most depressing movie ever! It was so sad and it almost made me cry. Of course, movies that make me cry, I am not a big fan of. I had such big expectations with this movie and it was not as funny as the others and it was just depressing. I would not really recommend it to anyone, it is a kids movie and kid appropriate at most parts and do not get me wrong there are some funny parts but all in all, I will not be watching this one a second time, EVER!

The Baby's Room is actually a foreign film that has subtitles but it is a good one. It is very twisted and I really liked it for the horror genre. It is about a young couple that buy a house and nothing is as it seems after the young couple receives a baby monitor as a gift and start hearing and seeing things that are not there. It is really good and I must admit that I have been leaning more and more towards foreign films since I have seen most American horror films and I am still looking for more. This is a good one to watch in the dark and I recommend it definitely.

I know that The Wizard is an old one but I have to pay good tribute to this one because it was what I grew up with. It is a great movie, kind of like a young version of the Rain Man. A young boys younger step brother is a little disturbed but a genius when it comes to nintendo games. I love watching this show because it has a lot of the games that my sister and I used to play on it and I love watching Fred Savage. He is so good for how young he is. A classic for sure and makes the top of the list of favorite all time movies. I loved watching this one again and taking the trip down memory lane with this one.

The Other Guys actually surprised me being that it did not get a lot of hype about this movie and it did not do too well at the box office but it was hilarious. I loved it. Mark Wahlberg is so funny and just compliments Wil Ferrell in this film. The choice of actors and characters are high rated and I enjoyed the movie. One of my favorite quotes would have to be " I am a peacock captain, you gotta let me FLY!"
"Terry! Peacocks can't fly!"
Good movie for sure and will make for fun for a good laugh. Not exactly children material though. Some language and adult situations.

I did enjoy the Last Exorcism. Actually, it freaked me out a little since I did watch it by myself. It is about a young country girl who is sheltered from the rest of the world by her father, is supposedly possessed by a demon. It has some really intense moments and had an ending that I did not expect at all. The whole thing is filmed as a documentary by a film crew that is following a Reverand around who is only filming to prove that exorcisms are hoaxes. It is really good and I recommend it to my fellow horror fans.

This is one that I did not expect to be good at all. I had hardly heard a thing about it and Bryan had known someone that recommended it and it was really good. The characters are like the old ones that we originally fell in love with with a lot of these actors, earlier in their careers. I must admit I have always been a fan of Sylvester Stallone. He is pretty good but the actors in it are good and I was really impressed. I recommend it to the action thriller fans out there and even to those just looking for a good movie to watch.

Surrogates was pretty good. I liked how it really focused on how technology driven society is and how someday it may very well take over our lives. It shows that there can be moral implications with trusting our lives in the lives of machines. Bruce Willis is a favorite of mine so it as a lot of fun to see him in this mystery thriller movie. I would recommend it for sure. I have always wondered what it would be like to live our lives through the eyes of someone else but this movie takes that thought to a whole new level.

I must admit that I did watch this one alone and it is a good thing. The plot is terrible like the second Step Up and the characters are not very deep and the actors are not really actors at all and more dancers. I love watching the dancing though. The dance moves are crazy good and I love all the choices of music and moves that the choreographer used. I like the Step Up movies for the dance moves, not anything else really. I did like the first one but the second and third just drag on with the same message. Someone who loves dancing would love these films and I would recommend them to a dancing fan for sure.

The Sorcerer's Apprentice surprised me as well. It was really well done and I like Nicholas Cage in this film. The young Jay Baruchel did very well in portraying the geeky college boy who has no clue of how to even act around a girl and I love how comedic his character even when he is not even trying to be funny. A good family movie and I would recommend it for sure.

I liked this movie for the action and the intricate detail that went into the plot. You really do not know whether or not Salt (played by Angelina Jolie) is a spy until the very end. It is about a federal agent that is accused of being a Russian spy by what seems to be a crazy man and she runs for fear that her husband is in danger. There are so many twists to this movie and I really love a film that can keep me on the edge of my seat and this movie was successful in that.

I know that The Rocky Horror Picture Show is not a new one and not even really considered to be a horror movie, now. I watched because it had been recommended to me to watch it that is was such a good movie. I really did not like it at all. I liked some of the songs and got some references from the movie now but all in all I am not into the whole cult like movies as this one is. I really am also not a fan of the characters and the whole plot is so over the top and all over the place that there are places that are almost hard to follow. I am indifferent to this one and would probably not recommend it.

I am Number Four is a good movie. It is another thriller action movie that has a little bit of the sci-fy twist to it. I liked the actors and actresses that they chose for this one. The plot is that there are these creatures from another planet that traveled to Earth to escape the evil clutches of the Mogadorians that have killed everyone of their kind except for the exceptional children that were able to escape. There are only a few left and slowly they are being tracked down and killed on Earth. Each child has special powers and abilities that they use to protect not only themselves but also those around. It does have the love story factor between the main character and a local girl of a small town that the characters are made to move to after being discovered. It is a good movie with excellent effects.

Not a kids movie by any means. This is a funny film but my goodness, it is a little dirty in more than one opportunity. From what I understand it is actually a remake of an older film. It is a good movie though and I enjoyed the humor in it and how it is that if you were given the opportunity to go back and change a live defining moment, would you change it? I must admit there are times that I would not mind going back to and changing but at the same time, I am so happy where I am with my life that I would want to change it.

Harper's Island is actually a series that showed a few years ago and I discovered thanks to the magical world of Netflix. I is a thriller/murder mystery series where there is a wedding party that goes to a childhood island where they all grew up. The thing about the island is that years ago there was a mad man who went through the island killing people. Well he comes back during the wedding and it comes down to everyone is a suspect in this thrilling horror. I loved watching the series because there is never a dull moment and the plot is so deep and twisted that you really have no clue who is in on the murders until the last bit. I loved how each character you really get to know and understand and it keeps you on the edge of your seat through the whole series.

Yes.... I know it is sad but I have turned into a total Gleek! Bryan is not so hot on the topic but I just feel he has not given the show a chance. He is so much more into Cops, Alaska State Troopers, Whale Wars (I am into Whale Wars though with him), and Police Women of Broward County. (He wonders why I suggest law enforcement as a profession for him?!?). Anyways, I have really fallen in love with the characters and songs of Glee. It is so high school it is scary how much it reminds me of high school. I love the songs they do and find it crazy how well they can take two songs and mash them up to sound so good. I love the Umbrella/Singing in the Rain version that they do. I am up to date with each season now too and recommend it to anyone. It is funny, sad, and enjoyable all in one and it will take you down the memory lane that is your past high school experience.

I really had some high expectations for Due Date and it was just not as funny as I expected. This is why I usually try not to have expectations for a movie. It is a good show for sure and it is funny but it did not have me on the floor laughing like I had hoped. I love Zach Galifianakis and he is so funny with his mannerisms, he is so much fun to watch. I thought the combination of Robert Downey Jr. and his seriousness and Zach's goofiness really complimented one another and it was a good movie for sure. I recommend for sure.

I have also been watching Dexter, the serial killer that has a conscience. He only kills other murderers and bad people. He is a very complex character and he strives to live a normal life with a family and kids. I love Dexter! It is great to watch with so much detail and you just fall in love with all the characters. They are all so complex and for sure my favorite character has to be Debra, Dexter's sister played by Jennifer Carpenter. She is so much fun to watch and you just feel her pain with each step of the way. She is so brazen yet delicate at the same time. She is so funny with her mouth like a sailor. I would not recommend this for children but for adults for sure.

The Devil's Backbone is another foreign horror film that I watched that was pretty good. It was twisted and dark and just all in all a good movie. The acting is great with culture and takes place during a civil war in Spain. It is different and not your usual horror flick. After a young boy is left at an orphanage for kids that their parents have died in the war and not told that his father is actually dead, he is haunted by a boy that had gone missing. It is tale of discovery of what truly happened to the missing boy and what each character is really at the orphanage for. I would recommend it those who are horror fans for sure.

Wow! Wow! Wow! This movie took me for a whirl in that I did not expect it to be that great. I had never heard of it before until a friend had recommended that I watch it. M. Night Shyamalan actually wrote this story and they decided to turn it into a movie. It is about these people who get stuck in an elevator in a tall business building and slowly one by one they are murdered by what they do not know. It ends up it is kind of like a prophecy of the Devil coming to Earth to take some souls of the damned. It is crazy and you really have no clue who it is until the end. The use of such a small space for a set was done very well and each character is so deep and they each have their own little secrets that they do not want to admit to. It is a good one of horror actually with a moral message.

If I had children, this is the type of movies they would be watching. I love Curious George movies. He is the cutest character and so much fun to watch. I really enjoyed this movie and I am 25 years old. You just fall in love with such an adorable character that is George and he is just the happiest monkey.

This one, I have mixed feelings about. Chloe I watched because of the cast seeing that Julianne Moore (an actress I have just loved watching over the years) in combination with Liam Neeson and Amanda Seyfried I thought would be a good movie. I really lost interest in the film after Julianne Moore and Amanda Seyfried's character get intimate in a lesbian scene. I was surprised that either one of them would agree to and I was not intrigued or anything to keep watching after that. I did finish the film but it is not one I would recommend.

This is an oldie horror film, and it is a goody too. I know it is kind of childish in the choice of how they chose the monster in this film but it is definitely twisted and dark. It is a good horror show though and it is one that will keep you on the edge of your seat through the whole movie. I watched this one alone and it scared the poop out of me and I have been avoiding the mirror ever since. I kind of takes me back to the time when we used to do the mirror saying of the name and you would always say that something terrible happened.

I loved this movie. Natalie Portman did such a wonderful job of showing how the character she played seemed to have it all together but was really not that sane and that she had more complexes than anyone. It is based around the Swan Lake ballet and even the story line that goes with it. It is a good one for sure and I would recommend it to adults only. It does have some sexual content and swearing but all in all a great film.

I watched this film to find a little more information on what really went down with the proposition 8. I myself being LDS it was good to see both sides of the story and really feel the frustration of the other side. I have never been really controversial with my opinion but I do have the opinion that if you love someone, regardless of sex, you should be able to be with that person and be married. Just because you let a gay couple get married does not mean that they are hurting those who feel differently. I know that there are some out there that they feel it needs to be their business that a gay couple are together but why should they not be able to have a certificate stating their committment to one another and have the legal benefits of being married. As far as God and married couples that are gay, that is between God and them, not me. I enjoyed the documentary and I watched it with an open mind of course. It is a controversial one for sure but I enjoyed the information and shots provided.

Well there are more that we have watched (I know we are addicted to movies) but those are the ones we either really liked or disliked. Nothing new really on the front here. We are just plugging along with work and school. I start at Utah State in the fall still and Bryan is trying to go to SLCC this fall if he can get financial aid in time. He wants to go into the criminal justice/police officer aspect and has a goal to go to school so he can get further along in the law enforcement area. I will keep this up to date if anything new arises.

Sorry, I couldn't carry the camera while riding a horse

This last week was a total blast for me. I got the opportunity to go up and ride horses with my aunt Pat while on a cattle drive. It was so much fun. My butt and legs are sore but it was so worth it. I left after work on Thursday and made the three hour drive up to Blackfoot, ID. I met up with my aunt at her home. We both hit the sack right away since we had to be up so early the next morning. We got up at 4:45 am on Friday and got ready. We loaded into my aunt's truck and went to pick up her friend Jerry. Jerry was a very nice guy and I enjoyed getting to know him. He actually lives in a shack on his property. He is a carpenter and work has not been plentiful lately so he is slowly working towards being able to build a house. He had the cutest dog ever named Red. She was such a nice dog and she had just had a litter of puppies so I was in seventh heaven getting to pet all the puppies. We then headed up to where the cattle had spent the night the evening before. The day before the cowboys had pushed the cattle just down the road. The drive itself is actually a three day drive and I got to go on the second day. We got to the camp and I got to meet everyone. Everyone was so nice to me and just all around good people. Of course they are cowboys so the beer and whiskey were already being passed around before even getting on their horses. I got to eat some of the best fried eggs I ever had before we saddled the horses and got up to move the cattle. It was a joke at first of me trying to get used to riding again. It had been only about... mmmm... 12 YEARS since I had last ridden. I had to try to remember everything. But after about 15 minutes it all came back to me and I was doing good. We pushed the cattle down a country road for about 6 miles before stopping. It was some of the most beautiful country side I have ever seen. There are rolling hills all around and just fields and fields of crops such as potatoes and alfalfa. There were about 120 heads of cattle that we were pushing and about half of them were calves. They were so cute and they just wanted to stay by their mom's sides at all times. They mooed the whole time we were driving them and it was like music to my ears. I loved it. When we did stop, we stopped for a potty break, drinks and a quick bite. Sadly at this point I did not get to ride anymore. My horse, handsome Jack was having problems walking because he is not shoed and his hoof cracked all the way up. He was such a good horse to ride. I enjoyed it a lot. He was a tall black horse topping the charts at 25 years old. He did not ride like an old horse though, he rode like a youngster. So after we loaded Jack into the trailer, I got to ride in the beer truck from there on out. The beer truck is just that. I pulls the trailer behind the driving cattle and provides an endless supply of beer and whiskey to the cowboys. At one point we stopped for a 30 minute break for beer and provided beer for the cowboys as they sat on their horses and told old stories. It was like a painting. We stopped again for lunch at which time of the cowboys made their way back to town for some supplies and so then I got to drive the beer truck following. We got up into the mountains before they stopped for the evening and we caught a ride back to my aunt's truck. It was a full day of horses, cows, and the cool Idaho hill air. I loved it and cannot stop thinking of how I wish I could just go back. After coming back down and dropping everyone off, my aunt and I went out to some yummy dinner and then hit the sack. I am so lucky to have such and awesome aunt that would treat me so great while I was there and she knew how much I was enjoying myself. I got to meet a lot of new people that were so much fun to talk to and get to know. I love my aunt to so much and she is a great person to hang out with it.
